Ramsay health medicare private dispute could affect patients' quality of life
Health minister says he has no comment to make as the issue is being investigated by Health Minister Simon Birmingham
Health Minister Simon Birmingham has warned that the cost of running the National Health Service could be "insignificant" if the dispute over staffing continues.
Health Minister Simon Birmingham will visit A&E units across Queensland tomorrow morning to discuss staffing and the issue of cuts to the National Health Service.
In a statement released this evening, Birmingham said the health service was "in a very difficult period" and the situation would be investigated by health secretary Simon Birmingham.
"I hope that the Minister will be able to outline any actions that are to be taken to ensure the NHS is maintained and kept at current standards," he said.
Mr Birmingham will also be in Cairns tomorrow where he will meet senior nurses, nurses assistants, and paramedics and look at ways to address cuts.
"I believe that all parties involved have taken appropriate steps to address the staff cuts in the way that we have been given time to do so," he said.
"We do not have to look forward or backwards, and there is nothing untoward about the way that management are taking decisions on their own and this is something that our NHS nurses, our frontline staff will deal with."
If the dispute continues to escalate, the government is prepared to take action which might also include funding cuts, Mr Birmingham said.
"Any action will be in the best interests of all of the NHS and of the state," he said.
"We won't be seeking to have it settled or back-tracked, it is not for us to do that.
"This should not just be about us fighting, it is about all of the staff and all of the staff's own concerns being heard.
"The fact that there are a number of staff, particularly nurses, saying they want to return to work is a reason that I believe is so critical for ensuring that things get back on track."
When asked if he had told any other frontline staff who are currently in the Cairns CBA that the government will be taking action against staff that raise questions about staffing, Mr Birmingham said it wasn't appropriate to respond to questions "in an unhelpful way".
"It is important to address the situation at hand and I have said before that our primary priority is to do everything that we can to keep the NHS as successful as possible," he said.
Mr Birmingham was joined at Cairns today by senior nurses at the National Health Building.
Geraldine McPartland is one of the nurses, who met up with the Health Minister to discuss her concerns ove

Un watchdog denies iran blocked nuke visit over US fears
U.S. officials have confirmed that Iran is barred from receiving nuclear fuel and material from the U.S.
In an announcement on Friday, the State Department said that it was determined that Iran had not received U.S.-provided nuclear material from nuclear material transfers.
It added: "We have notified the relevant parties, including IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) officials, of our position."

A senior official from the National Security Council said: "We are confident that we will work with President Hassan] Rouhani reach a deal]."
Meanwhile, U.S. officials have said that Iran is currently being prevented from getting any U.S. nuclear fuel and material to help speed up construction of its nuclear power project, believed to be an effort to build a bomb.
It is not possible to receive uranium in an approved transfer, and Iran has been attempting to circumvent that by claiming it has already received US-designated uranium from Iran's other major export and enrichment facility, known as Oligarch Noam's nuclear complex.

A report released this week says the Oligarch Noam enrichment project has been operational since October 2014 but was declared non-functional after the U.S. imposed sanctions on Iran in 2014 over that country's nuclear activities.
There has also been no confirmation of the existence of the fuel, the report says. |
